Women’s team too strong for Allstars

Posted by Nobody on 18 December 2014

Monday night saw the Cougars Women’s team post a comprehensive 56–35 win away against the Holbrook Allstars.

The Cougars took the lead in the first quarter, with a full court man defence and consistent fast breaks proving too much for their Horsham opposition.

Forward Ella Mahoney displayed an MVP-worthy performance, scoring 12 points inside the key against a tall zone. Ferocious defence from Rosie James and Aude Eberlin produced turnovers aplenty, with both guards taking nine points each.

Dora Keresztes continued her excellent form from last season with an energetic performance, posting six points, while centre Emelie Swerre showed pluck, scoring six points and successfully defending the league’s tallest player.

The team was again spurred on by the return of Hungarian powerhouse, Beata Szabo, who posted six points, while point guard Alice Johnson scored eight.

Another big thank you to the club’s generous sponsor Home Tutors, who supplied the team’s new kit. The team has also welcomed a new coach this season, Ben Foster, who has played and coached with the club for more than 10 years.
