About the club
Brighton Cougars is a not-for-profit community basketball club run entirely by members for its members. Originally established in 1989 we now have around 300 members.
In 2015 Brighton Cougars became an HMRC registered CommunityAmatateur Sport Club or CASC for short allowing us to claim Gift Aid on individual member donations and to generate more corporate sponsorship from commercial organisations who can then offset this against their own taxes.
For the 2019-20 season we will have seven local league teams and nine national league teams playing competitive basketball and tournaments throughout the south-east region. Most of our training and home matches take place at Dorothy Stringer School but some of our national league teams also train and play at BACA, Sussex University and BHASVIC
The only junior basketball club in Brighton ...
We are currently the only junior basketball club in Brighton & Hove and all our coaches are fully trained and DBS checked. In addition to our local and national league teams, every Saturday morning we run our City All Stars development session for girls and boys in school years up to and including year 6. This is designed specifically for children who are relatively new to basketball and/or who are keen to progress beyond just playing basketball in the park or at school. Here they will learn essential basketball skills and match play from experienced, qualified coaches in a fun and relaxed environment.
