Women’s team triumphant in local derby

In a closely fought away game at BACA last week, the Brighton Cougars came back fighting with a 6-point victory against local rival, Brighton Phoenix.
It was level on the bench, with each team having nine players. Coached by Sean Jupp, the Cougars set a quick pace in the first quarter, sinking the first bucket of the game. Several followed closely after. The ladies meant business, pushing a zone defence approach and stifling Flames' key shooter, resulting in a lead of 19-12 to the Cougars after the first.
A full court press began to reap its rewards in the second quarter, backed up by key shots and aggressive rebounding. With both teams playing clean and fair, at half time the score still had Cougars in front at 34-31.
In the second half our ladies pushed for fast breaks and clean passes, seeing them score an additional 20 points. Although Flames defended well, they were no match for Cougars’ aggressive drives to the basket, seeing an away win to the women's team, with a final score of 65-59.
It was a very closely matched game, with both teams determined and dedicated to the end. Well done everyone and congratulations to the Cougars.
