End of Season Message from Co-Chair Sean Jupp

Posted by Brighton Cougars on 9 May 2020

Saturday 9th May would have been our end of season presentations for 2019/20, where traditionally we recap the highs and lows of the season, the matches, individual performances and other notable events that took place plus, of course, hand out some well-deserved awards and thanks.

With Basketball England's decision to cancel all basketball related activity for the remainder of the 2019/20 season on 13th March, the time has been filled with important things to safely and securely see family, friends and colleagues through this difficult and testing time.

For players, the early end to the season with the chance to play for that medal or playoff spot may feel like a missed opportunity. We hope, however, it acts instead as motivation to get ready for the time when we meet again in the gym, and that time will come. As a player you need to be ready to play and work hard, don’t be tempted to come back ready to get ready. Use this time to improve your skills, fitness, flexibility, strength, get over those injuries and learn more about the game. Do this and it won't be a wasted season.

In the current circumstances it would be understandable to forget all the time we had together playing basketball this past season and the efforts of Team Managers, coaches, officials, drivers, kit washers, chair stackers and fundraisers. That’s why it's more important than ever to say thank you to all these people for making the time we enjoyed together possible, so on behalf of the players and Committee, thank you all very much. It would also be remiss of me not to thank on behalf of all members, my fellow co-chair, Karen Perrier and the rest of the Committee without whom there would have been no basketball at all.

No one currently knows when organised basketball will start again and what a new season will look like. As a club, we will continue to follow advice from Basketball England making sure we are ready to make the most of that opportunity when it comes. In doing this, the Committee will look to provide as much basketball as we can support, for all members. Help us do this by looking out for updates and taking any action as soon as you can.

For now, look after yourself and those around you and we look forward to seeing you back on court as soon as we can.
