The under 16s zone defence failed to prevent the bigger and stronger Crawley Cagers breaking through for easy layups.
The Cougars were down 30-2 in the first quarter. The Brighton team failed to defend and posed no sustained threat on the inside because they relied on hard to hit outside shots.
In the second quarter the visitors switched to a man to man defence which stopped the easy layups. At half time the score stood at 50-11.
Brighton Cougars started putting more pressure in the Crawley backcourt after halftime. With more bench players starting the third quarter the team delivered a far stronger performance and with strong man to man defence the team were marginally outscored 17-18.
But the team failed to sustain the excellent defence of the third quarter and the Crawley Cagers racked up 26 points to 9.
The game ended 96-36.
