Brighton Basketball for Girls & Women

Posted by Brighton Cougars on 27 July 2018

Brighton Cougars Basketball Club has been developing Girls and Womens basketball for the last nine years for girls aged 9 upwards. We currently have two Womens teams and one U11 Girls team entered in the BasketballSUSSEX local leagues and one team at National League U16 Premier and U14 Development level. Three U16 players are on the Basketball England development pathway and one is part of the GB U16 squad. Many of our players at U16 level have been playing in our local league Womens team for several years to support their development and we also have an all-girls U11 local league team. We are entering a National League Division 2 Women’s team and BHASVIC are entering a women’s team in the college league.

Brighton Cougars, under the banner Brighton Basketball is now working in partnership with Sussex University, Brighton University, and Brighton Hove & Sussex Sixth Form College (BHASVIC) to develop a sustainable pathway for women’s basketball across Sussex.

We are looking to recruit a Head Coach to oversee our National League Division 2 Womens team, the Sussex University BUCS team, and support the BHASVIC female basketball college program, as well as developing further partnerships to ensure the growth of a sustainable pathway for female basketball across Sussex.

We are also looking for an Assistant Coach who would like to train under the Head Coach of our National League Womens team with the aim of achieving the Level 2 Coach qualification.

We are also looking to recruit, support, and train a person who is interested in becoming a qualified Level 2 Referee and another who is interested in becoming a qualified basketball statistician.

Brighton Basketball have decided to use a positive action procedure for this recruitment process and would encourage those under represented to apply.

We are running an open trial for our Womens National League team at BHASVIC on Thursday 2 August 8pm to 10pm. Cost £5 per player, with further training on Thursdays throughout August 9, 16 & 23, at 8-9pm.

Furthermore if you missed  either  the U16  or U14 Girls National League open trials in July please come along to one of their summer training sessions in August - see  What’s On Section for more details
